Abstract: Impact of mobility restrictions for Covid-19 on premature mortality from traffic accidents in China.
This short paper investigates the impact of Covid-19 pandemic lockdown on premature mortality from traffic accidents in China. Trend of NO2 polluttant in major Chinese cities were used as indicator of motor traffic variations due to mobility restrictions. In February 2020, the estimated YLL from traffic accidents were about 23,350 in the Province of Hubei and about 730,300 for the whole of China. The difference with respect to expected values roughly translate to 23,352 traffic related YLL avoided in February in Hubei and 312,982 YLL avoided for the whole of China.
